Thank you for your interest in my writing. For me, the real magic happens when readers bring my work to life by manifesting the story in their imaginations beyond the limitations of my words.

• A morally complicated, highly competent protagonist in the Reacher tradition
• Technically accurate military tactics and weapons handling from an author who served
• A grounded look at how the modern drug trade actually operates
• A father-son story with real emotional stakes, not just a genre twist
• A slow-burn family mystery with a gut-punch reveal
• High-stakes action across New England and Mexico
• The first book in a new series, with more Sean Murphy novels to come

Most cartel thrillers are told from the perspective of a cop, a DEA agent, or a hardened criminal. TIGER is told from the perspective of a decorated combat veteran radicalized not by ideology but by grief and the need to protect what's left of his family — which makes it read less like a procedural and more like a reckoning. The novel earns comparisons to Lee Child's Jack Reacher for its lone-operator competence and Tom Clancy for its precision in tactics and weapons, but its emotional core — a son learning the true cost of his father's war — gives it a weight that sets it apart from typical airport-thriller fare.

Carrier doesn't sanitize the drug crisis devastating towns like Holyoke, and he doesn't sanitize what it costs a person to fight back against it outside the boundaries of the law.

What do you owe the people you love when the only way to protect them is to become someone they wouldn't recognize?

Part of what makes TIGER distinct in a crowded thriller market is its refusal to treat Western Massachusetts as flyover country. Carrier writes Holyoke — the old mill city built by 19th-century industrialists and populated by generations of Irish immigrant labor — with the eye of someone who has lived its decline rather than researched it. The Connecticut River, the abandoned brick mills, the Suffolk Street row house that's been in the Murphy family for three generations — all of it grounds a story about cartel violence in something achingly local and specific. As Murph's investigation widens, the novel moves from the streets of Holyoke to a cartel stronghold on the Mexican coast, giving the back half the scale of a full paramilitary thriller without losing the personal thread that started it all.

TIGER sits at the intersection of several proven categories: Reacher-style lone-operator thrillers, Clancy-adjacent military and cartel fiction, and character-driven crime novels built around family secrets. It should appeal to readers of authors like Brad Taylor, Marc Cameron, Don Bentley, and Vince Flynn, as well as readers drawn to shows like SEAL Team, Jack Ryan, or the grounded moments of Ozark. For a debut, it reads with the technical confidence of an author who has actually worn the uniform — and that authenticity shows in everything from small-arms handling to radio discipline to the procedural weight of a breach-and-clear.

TIGER resolves its central mystery — the identity behind the intelligence that shaped Murph's entire life — while deliberately leaving the larger war unfinished. The final pages set up a working relationship between Murph and a DEA Special Operations Division looking to bring his exact skill set in-house, sanctioned and resourced, for a much broader scope.
